I have brown marks that looks like “rust” inside my bottle

If you have any brown stains that have appeared inside or on the outside of your stainless-steel bottle, not to worry these marks are called “tea stains” and are mostly created by strong dishwashing detergent that has not been fully rinsed off.

You can clean these stains off with a 3M Scotch-Brite Hand Pads, #7447 PAD or similar or a Scotch-Brite Stainless Steel Scouring Pad or similar. If you are finding it hard to remove you can try to add a little salt to rub over the area. See below photos.

This process can be used on the inside and outside of your stainless-steel bottle as you are only polishing the surface.

If you have been led to believe that breaking the surface of stainless steel will make all the chemicals leach out then you have been miss informed.

Chromium in Stainless Steel has a “passivation” property, meaning when the surface is scratched, it can rebuild itself in the presence of oxygen. This special property/process is what makes Stainless Steel more corrosion resistant and also prevents any chemicals from leaching, making Stainless Steel one of the safest materials for your ECOtanka drink bottle!
